Alberta Education’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) curriculum outlines provincial expectations and outcomes related to technology use in the classroom. It specifies what students from Kindergarten to grade 12 are expected to know, be able to do, and be like with respect to technology in their every day learning. This curriculum is not intended to stand alone, but rather to be infused within core courses and programs. Teachers are thus expected to add technology-based learning activities to their regular units of study, lesson plans, and projects that help meet learning outcomes for both the core unit of study and ICT.
At Calgary Academy, our goal is not simply to “infuse” but to enthuse and inspire students to explore and construct knowledge through technology-based learning activities. Every learning activity is created with the purpose of gaining measurable improvements in the rate and depth of understanding of core curriculum concepts – improvements that would not be possible without the integration of technology.
The CA Online Resources is one resource aimed
at achieving this goal. This resource, created
through the combined efforts of Calgary Academy
teachers and the DMC represents exemplary
computer-based activities all teachers and
students in the school can share, learn, and
benefit from.
